AITAK
In development for iPhone

Team awareness for iPhone, with AI built in.

AITAK is a TAK-compatible app that puts your team on one shared, live map, works alongside ATAK, WinTAK and TAK Server users, and adds AI assistance so field teams spend less time tapping and more time on the task.

Built for search & rescue, emergency response, wildfire, maritime and expedition teams. By VCBL Ltd, London.

Core features

Everything your team needs on one map

AITAK is being built around the essentials of team situational awareness, designed natively for iPhone. Features are in development and may change before release.

Shared live map

See every team member's position update in real time on a single shared map, with clear status and last-seen times.

Markers & points of interest

Drop, label and share markers for meeting points, hazards, casualties or landmarks, visible to the whole team instantly.

Routes

Plan and share routes with distance and waypoints, so everyone follows the same path to the same place.

Team chat

Message your whole team or individuals, with chat that interoperates with TAK clients over standard messaging.

Offline maps

Download map areas before you go so the map keeps working where mobile coverage doesn't.

Local mesh networking

Share positions and markers directly with nearby devices over the local network, including Android TAK devices, without needing a server.

AI features

An assistant that understands the map

AITAK's AI features are designed to cut down on tapping and typing in the field, and to turn a busy map into a clear picture. They're in active development.

Natural-language commands

Tell AITAK what you need in plain English and it carries out the action on the map.

"Drop a marker at the ridge and share it with the team."

Automatic situation summaries

Get a short, readable summary of where your team is, what's changed and what needs attention, on demand.

"Summarise the last 30 minutes."

Voice-to-text team reports

Speak a report and AITAK turns it into a structured, shareable text update, so you can keep your hands free.

Smart alerts

Be told when it matters: a team member stops moving, leaves a planned route, or a new hazard appears near the team.

Wildfire hotspot overlay

See satellite-detected thermal hotspots from NASA FIRMS public data on your map, with AI context on proximity to your team.

Vessel tracking overlay

Overlay public AIS vessel positions for coastal and maritime work, alongside your own team's positions.

AI output can be wrong. AITAK is designed as an aid to your team's judgement, not a replacement for it. Public data overlays depend on third-party feeds and may be delayed or incomplete.

Use cases

Built for teams that work in the field

AITAK is designed for civilian teams who need to know where everyone is and what's happening around them.

Search & rescue

Coordinate search areas, mark finds and track every searcher's position, even out of signal over local mesh.

Emergency response

Give responders a shared picture of incidents, access points and resources, with quick voice reports from the scene.

Wildfire

Keep crews aware of each other and of nearby satellite-detected hotspots from public NASA FIRMS data.

Maritime & coastal

Combine your team's positions with public AIS vessel data for coastal operations, safety cover and rescue support.

Outdoor & expedition teams

Offline maps, shared routes and check-ins for guides, expeditions and remote fieldwork.

Event security & stewarding

Coordinate stewards and safety staff across large venues and events with live positions, markers and team chat.

TAK compatibility

Works with ATAK, WinTAK and TAK Server

Many teams already use TAK tools on Android and Windows. AITAK is designed to join them from an iPhone, not replace them.

  • Cursor-on-Target (CoT). AITAK speaks the standard CoT message format used across the TAK ecosystem for positions, markers and chat.
  • TAK Server. Connect to your organisation's TAK Server to share with users wherever they are.
  • Local mesh / multicast. Exchange data directly with nearby ATAK and other TAK devices on the same local network, no server needed.
  • Independent code. AITAK is written independently by VCBL Ltd and is TAK-compatible. It is not ATAK.

Trust & compliance

Built responsibly

How we're approaching AITAK, and what it is and isn't.

Civilian focus

AITAK is built for search & rescue, emergency response, wildfire, maritime, expedition and event-security teams. It is not designed or intended for weapons or targeting.

Independent and TAK-compatible

AITAK is VCBL Ltd's own app, written independently. It interoperates with TAK tools using the open Cursor-on-Target standard. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Government or the TAK Product Center; "ATAK" and "TAK" are referenced for compatibility only.

Privacy first

Your location is shared only with your team, and only when you choose. Background location is used only for live team tracking. AI features will say clearly what is processed on your device and what is sent to a service. We don't sell your data or use it for ad tracking. Read our privacy policy.

Designed for the App Store

AITAK is being built to Apple's App Store guidelines. Local network and multicast access, used for mesh with nearby TAK devices, is requested transparently with a clear explanation of why it's needed.

FAQ

Common questions

Is AITAK the same as ATAK?

No. AITAK is an independent, TAK-compatible app for iPhone, written by VCBL Ltd. It's designed to work alongside ATAK, WinTAK and TAK Server users, but it is a separate product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Government or the TAK Product Center.

When can I get it?

AITAK is in development. Join the beta waitlist and we'll let you know when testing opens.

Will it work with my team's existing TAK setup?

That's the goal. AITAK is being built to use the standard Cursor-on-Target protocol, to connect to TAK Server, and to exchange data over local mesh with nearby TAK devices. We'll publish compatibility details as testing progresses.

Do I need a signal to use it?

Offline maps and local mesh networking are designed to keep core features working without mobile coverage. Some features, such as public data overlays and some AI features, need a connection.

Who is AITAK for?

Civilian teams: search & rescue, emergency response, wildfire, maritime, outdoor and expedition teams, and event security.

What happens to my location and AI prompts?

Location is shared only with your team when you choose. AI features will make clear what's processed on-device and what's sent to a service. See the privacy policy for details.
